March 20, 2019 Rugby 3 min read BACK

A New Look

In a few weeks time the 2019 Shute Shield will be underway, with each of the 11 teams eager to kick-start their season. Throughout its history of almost 100 years, the Shute Shield has been Sydney’s premier grade rugby union competition, and this season’s competition is set to be like no other.

Excitingly, on February 1st Canterbury was proudly announced as an official partner of the 2019 Shute Shield.

Canterbury APAC Managing Director Jamie Meikleham expressed his happiness, saying

“We are delighted at being able to support rugby at this level. Grassroots rugby is the beating heart of the sport, where our future Super Rugby stars come from. This partnership is Canterbury living our mission, doing ‘everything for the game’”.

In addition, broadcast rights holder and Club Rugby TV Director Nick Fordham said,

“We are thrilled to partner with Canterbury. They have a trusted, deep history in the game, a high quality product, and a real desire to help sport grow at every level. I think there’s a perfect fit between Canterbury and the Intrust Super Shute Shield”.

Other partners include Channel 7 and the Prime Network, who are the television broadcasters. Every Saturday, a match-of-the-day will be broadcast live on the Seven Network on 7TWO and regionally through Prime, with coverage also extending to the Plus7 App and full match replays on FoxSports.

Plus, Canterbury have continued their commitment to Shute Shield rugby as they designed and produced new jerseys for Sydney University, with one of the club’s centre/wing players, Joshua King, expressing his thoughts.

It’s great to see such an iconic rugby brand involved with the Shute Shield this year.  Canterbury is about “everything for the game” and so are we.”

His thoughts are echoed by his Sydney University teammate and fullback James Kane:

Canterbury are our team kit supplier so it’s great to see them expanding their level of support to strengthen grassroots rugby through their sponsorship of the Shute Shield.”

Footy is back!

It’s time to dust off the boots and get ready for the footy season. We spend roughly half of the year waiting for the winter season to commence, and it’s finally time. If you are unsure whether or not you’ll be playing this season, we’ve put together a few reasons highlighting why you should register for the upcoming season.

Improving your health

Not only does rugby act as a great form of cardiovascular exercise, it also involves sprinting, tackling, pushing and kicking. These are all movements which are bound to improve your upper body strength, speed and agility.

Developing social skills

Whether it’s at training throughout the week or hanging around the oval after the match, rugby is a fantastic way to make new friends and strengthen relationships. It is an effective method of enhancing your team skills, communication skills and social interactions.

Character building

Nobody likes losing, but sometimes it allows players to become stronger by realising that it is just a game and you are meant to have fun. Plus, losing a match can also cause us to reflect on where it might be possible to improve both personally and as a team.

Make sure you’re ready for the footy season with Canterbury

You’ll need to make sure that you have all of your gear ready to go for Round 1. So, if you can’t remember where you put your mouthguard from last year or your favourite bag has gone missing, don’t stress, Canterbury has got you covered for the entire season with their Training Essentials range.
